Learning for Free: A Review of Free Online Classes and Educational Resources

I love learning about new things that interest me, so the allure of free online classes was very tempting. I  wanted to test different educational apps/websites and see how they compare to other podcasts, videos, college/ high school online classes and reading I've experienced. Are these apps gimmicky? Do some of them really offer something insightful for the price of ACTUALLY FREE? This post is a review of several resources I have tried recently; all of which offer a substantial amount of content at no charge. Coursera Coursera is a website (and free application) that can be used for taking online classes from accredited colleges and universities. You have the option to audit many of their classes, meaning you can complete the coursework and participate in activities for free. When auditing a course, you do not receive a certificate for completion, but you can upgrade from the start or later in the course to the paid alternative, which qualifies for a class completion ce

7 Photo Editing Apps to Try!

Here are some free apps to make your images picture perfect, with features such as filters, layout, effects, typography, etc. Enjoy 1. Typorama Typorama is an easy to use app that allows you to add chic, modern typography to your images. First step for making your creation is to choose an image by searching sample images or using your own. You can then crop the image for the ideal fit for whatever social media platform or otherwise you may be working on. And last, you get to add your typography. This app gives you plenty of free, beautiful designs to choose from. And as you may have guessed, you can fork up a couple dollars to remove the watermark and add additional features. 2. LiveCollage There are a variety of free apps you can use to make collages, but this one has become a tried and true for me. Again this app is easy to use and includes a huge variety of design choices, no matter how many images you choose to collage with. Simply choose your layout and add your im

Disneyland and DCA Halloween Re-Cap (Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, Halloween Treats, World of Color)

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is held on select nights at Disneyland and is a great event to attend, especially if you have kids (though adults will enjoy it too). It does book early though so you do want to plan ahead. During the event, all rides are open and lines tend to be shorter. As it gets to be time for the party, only party guests (those with the wrist bands they give at check-in) can go on the rides. You also have picture opportunities with the Disney characters in their Halloween costumes and characters like Jack and Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas. The Cadaver Dans sing on the Rivers of America and are not hard to spot, so check them out as you head through Frontierland and New Orleans Square. And of course, there are the trick or treat trails, where you trick or treat at different spots throughout the park. They do give you a small candy bag at check-in, but you can also use your own. The trick or t

Top Ten Horror Movies

Some of my personal favorites, enjoy 1. 1408 You know...the one by Stephen King about a haunted hotel. No, I'm not talking about The Shining. 1408 is based on a short story by Stephen King. The main premise is there is a man who writes novels about the most haunted places he visits, but he does not believe in the supernatural. When he finally stays in a hotel room that is a bit, well, off, he struggles to maintain his sanity. I really like this movie because of the story line and also the way it creates fear. If you like to be scared but do not like gore, this one is for you. 2. The Skeleton Key This came on randomly when I was on the ScFi channel and I have watched it multiple times since. The Skeleton Key takes place in New Orleans. When a young nurse cares for a patient in an old house, she realizes something is wrong with the place. Her search for answers has her learning about voodoo, ghosts, and magic. This movie has a good storyline and is another great horr
